Afternoon loves! So this weekend I decided that my pantry needed a refresh. I realized I was throwing away way too much food because it was getting lost in the deep dark depths of my pantry. Wow, that seems so sinister, but really it is just a lack of organization! I love to have candles burning in my house and find that I have been saving the candle jars for a while now because I just KNEW there was going to be a great way to re-purpose them. And I think I have a really great way to do just that! I love the Bath and Body Works Candles and think their jars are just super cute, so I used them for my pantry reorganization! My pantry still has a ways to go but I am definitely getting there!
How to use old candle jars to organize your pantry
When candles are burned down to the last little bit of wax, a lot of times they wont hold a flame. When you get to this point, it is a great time to re-purpose those candles into a great container for your pantry organization!
HOW TO GET THE WAX OUT
Put the candle in the freezer for at least 5 hours and allow the wax to totally harden. I leave mine in for a few days. Eventually the wax will pull away from the sides of the candle, which makes it much easier to remove. You will also see in the picture below that the wax will form little cracks as well, which makes it easier to wedge out using a knife. Also, since you are keeping the wax pieces fairly whole, you can use them in a wax burner!
Use a dull knife or another tool to wedge out the wax. Once you get a small piece out the rest will come out very easily.
CLEAN THE CANDLE JAR
Put the candle jar and lid into the dish washer. When it comes out clean again with a damp cloth and be sure all residual wax and residue has been removed. Remove the front label and the bottom label after dish washing. This should loosen any glue and make getting them off fairly easy.
MAKE THEM PRETTY!
I decided to spray paint the lids of my containers to add a pop of color in my white pantry! I used this RUST-OLEUM painters touch paint and primer in the color Ocean Mist. If you like this color, you can buy here!Since I know items in my pantry would change, I wanted to also put chalkboard labels on my jars. I LOVE the way they turned out! I used the homestead 36″ labels that I purchased on amazon! Check out all of the label options here and find one that works best with the jars you will be using! I also highly recommend this chalkboard marker. It makes writing on your labels so much easier and cleaner!
START FILLING YOUR JARS AND REORGANIZE YOUR PANTRY
Start filling your jars! It is that easy and really transforms a space! I used it for things that I grab by the handful or items that I may need a tablespoon of here or there including chocolate chips, nuts, wheat germ (I love it..weird I know) and breadcrumbs. These jars have proved to be such a time and money saver. I can see exactly what I have on hand and it makes cooking and shopping so much easier!
